Ford Escort Mk6 Cabriolet 1.6       SOLD

Registered new on 13th March 1997, this exceptional low mileage example has been with only its second registered keeper since 1998. Having covered on average just 1,300 miles each year ever since, the car has evidently been well maintained and lovingly cherished.

Scanning through the documentation it is fascinating to find some interesting articles including a Bill of Sale dated 17.5.98 and an old V5 Vehicle Registration Document issued to its new keeper at the time of purchase. With numerous stamps in the Service Guide and a collection of previous MOT certificates, the low recorded mileage is well supported and documented.

Produced as a Limited Edition, the Calypso model boasts a 1597cc engine giving it the performance to match its sporty appearance. Having covered just 47,000 miles, the engine ticks over sweetly and pulls with eagerness. The 5-speed manual ‘box slots smoothly into gear and is a pleasure to operate.

The excellent condition of the bodywork is testimony to the low recorded mileage. So many Fords of this era suffering from corrosion, it is unusual to find such a superb example. The gleaming metallic blue paintwork a perfect contrast against the immaculate and unmarked power hood boasting a heated glass rear screen. One could be forgiven for mistaking the car to be much younger than its age.

Again a reflection of the cars low mileage, the interior shows remarkably little wear; the unmarked velour trimmed seats offering both excellent support and comfort. All switchgear functions as intended and likewise shows remarkably little evidence of use. The factory fitted Ford stereo head unit remains maintaining originality.

Mechanically the car is quite exceptional, evidently being maintained regardless of cost with any MOT advisories always promptly addressed. Though the mileage is indisputably low, the car has clearly been used sparingly but on a regular basis thus avoiding any issues commonly associated with long-term stored examples often requiring recommissioning. Truly a delight to drive and offering a level of refinement rare amongst its contemporaries, the Mk6 Cabriolet makes for a realistic proposition as a ‘daily driver’.

Adding to the desirability of this particular example is the fact that it sits on 15-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels. Not a large diameter wheel compromising ride in favour of the aesthetic, but rather a sensible upgrade over the standard steel wheels. All four tyres have a good tread depth with several thousand miles of life remaining in them.

An exceptional low mileage car having had only two registered keepers, the last for 18 years. With the prices of collectable Ford models continuing to rise, this surely presents an opportunity to acquire a usable future classic. Benefitting from a full valet and supplied with a fresh MOT certificate, summer just got that bit more enjoyable.
